I know the steampunk nerf gun has been well-done before, and I'm certainly not being innovative by making one for myself, but it's just such fun having them and playing with them.

This piece was a gift for my mentor, who works at the costume shop of my university. She now has a way to encourage workstudy students even better!

What did you use to get the wood coloring?

The first coat was a metallic copper spraypaint in several layers. (the more yellow-looking stuff is a brass-coloured can) wait until all layers are dry.
The second part is I swabbed liquid permanent black ink onto the gun. The kind of black ink you would dip a fountain pen into for drawing.

The next process is antiquing, so you just take a paper towel or cloth and slowly rub off some of the black ink, revealing the paint underneath, being careful not to take off all the ink. (also be careful about fingerprints. It's good to do this technique in sections) The ink tends to settle in cracks and corners giving it an old-fashioned look.

This is one of my fave. nerf guns to steampunk. I've done a couple now and have a dozen more to do. I like the simplicity of your gun. It looks great. Keep playing with them.

Holy CRAP this is great ! :) So creative and well done ! :)

Sorry I know that doesn't fall into the " Critiques should be thoughtful, in depth responses to the work" category, I'm not an artist so sadly I lack the elegance to say anything better than that :) .. but really, this is truly impressive work :)
