I work at a fabric / quilting store. I get a great deal on quilting fabric, so I've decided to use it. (Cosplay sewing is on hold for reasons of burnout. At least with this I can sew without thinking or being largely disappointed with what I make)
This week after work, I bought 20cm samples of 37 different quilting fabrics
I brought them home and sliced them into 2x2" squares
I scanned each fabric swatch, cropped and saved each as an individual .jpg image
I used my Plain Portrait stock and input the parameters of my folder of swatches
I rendered the mosaic and plan to use this image as a template for building my quilt.
The finished quilt will be 50 x 69 1-inch fabric pixel swatches when complete. 3450 squares in all.
I hope to get at least one row done per night to finish my proof of concept. Then, hopefully, I can ramp up the resolution to 1/2" squares to make a much finer image.
Download the image to view details of the pattern of each swatch.
That's part of what I did to help create the fabric map. I shrunk down the photo of my face to a low resolution, then blew it back up again to have large squares to show the colour variation.
